Uttar Pradesh initiates privatization push for transport depots

Lucknow: With the aim of increasing the efficiency of the workshops of the Transport Corporation, a tender was issued to give the workshops of 19 depots on outsourcing. The tender of 15 out of 19 depots has been approved. This information was given by Minister of State for Transport (Independent Charge) Dayashankar Singh.

He said that the rates received for a total of 1255 buses in 15 depots range from Rs 3.57 per kilometer to Rs 5.48 per kilometer. Through this tender, the work of bus maintenance in 15 depot workshops will be given to private companies, which mainly include Shyam Enterprises, SDL Enterprises, R.K. Automobile.

The Transport Minister said that after the initial successful completion of this tender process, the maintenance work of other 100 depots will also be handed over to private companies. He said that due to the lack of technical staff and officers in the workshops, the Transport Corporation is facing the problem of maintenance of buses. Through this tender process, private companies will be provided the opportunity to do maintenance.

He said that there should be skilled and qualified mechanics for the maintenance of new technology buses, after this contract process, skilled mechanics will be available for the maintenance of buses.
